Twelve Days of Christmas Afternoon Tea at the InterContinental London Park Lane

It’s no secret. I’m a big fan of the fine foodie offerings InterContinental London Park Lane. With Executive Chef Paul Bates calling the palate pleasing shots (not to mention chef Theo Randall doing his own tasty thing with onsite upscale Italian restaurant), I’ve never never even come close to having a less than ideal dining experience here. So an invitation to try the hotel’s limited edition Christmas afternoon tea was one I greedily accepting. This was my second time to enjoy an afternoon tea at the InterContinental and it did not disappoint. If anything, my expectations for a high level of quality and service were exceeded. Mamounia Lounge Mayfair Reopens: Swish!

About a year ago, I paid a visit to the then newly opened Mamounia Lounge in Knightsbridge. Just as it was launching, its sister outlet in Mayfair was closing down for a refurb. Last month, Mamounia Lounge Mayfair re-opened. With both Mamounias up and running, Londoners now have two swank reasons to enjoy a night out in Arabian style. Here’s a quick report from my recent visit to the re-opend Mayfair venue. Continue reading

Upstairs Dining at The Portman Pub & Restaurant, Marylebone

The contact address may say Upper Berkeley Street, but The Portman Pub & Restaurant is very much part of the dynamic dining scene of its cross street corner – Seymour Place, home to Lockhart, Vinoteca, Sandy’s and Donostia. After my Friday night dinner, I’m pleased to report this Marylebone gastropub just a short jaunt from Marble Arch does a good job keeping up with the competition. Continue reading

London Daily Photo: Did You Celebrate Apple Day?

Did you know that yesterday was Apple Day? Honestly, I wouldn’t have realised it either if I hadn’t been for the folks behind English Apples and Pears kindly inviting me along to an English Apple tasting and cheese pairing at Marylebone’s fabulous La Fromagerie on Moxon Street. Continue reading

Four Reasons to Stay in Soho When You Visit London

You know me – I love London. The thing about living here for over ten years though is that I experience the city like a local not as a visitor. Despite often viewing the city through a rather rose-tinted lens, … Continue reading

Delicious Italian Seafood Menu at Pescatori, Charlotte Street

It’s been a few weeks now since I enjoyed dinner at Italian seafood restaurant, Pescatori. I haven’t forgotten how lovely it was though. Indeed, I’ve been waiting for the right time to publish my review so it didn’t get crowded out by other posts about places receiving more than an equitable slice of momentary hype. So with little happening in the tikichrisosphere today, here’s my review of fantastic Fitrzrovia restaurant, Pescatori. Buon appetito! Continue reading

London Daily Photo: Appleton Estate’s Senior Blender, David Morrison, at Hawksmoor Spitalfields

It’s London Cocktail Week: red letter days for booze hounds, bar folk and limber elbowed media types from across the globe. I’ve been getting in on the LCW fun a bit too. My lunch yesterday came compliments of Hawksmoor Spitalfields where Appleton Estate’s Senior Blender, David Morrison, was on hand to guide a small group of us (booze hounds, bar folk and limber elbowed media types) through a hands-on rum blending. Continue reading

Gastro Pub Perfection at The Only Running Footman, Berkeley Square

If you’ve been following this blog recently you’ve noticed I’ve been on a winning streak hitting a string of terrific restaurants around town. I’m happy to add one more to the list – the evocatively titled gastro pub, The Only Running Footman, as another great example of London dining at its best. Continue reading

Lunch at Lima: Wow.

Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez’s much lauded London outpost, Lima, has just received its first Michelin star – and the first one ever granted to a Latin restaurant in Europe. Guess who was lucky enough to enjoy a leisurely lunch there the day after the big announcement? Yep. And I loved every last bite of my experience too. Continue reading

London Daily Photo: Les Dioscures, Jean Cocteau

London Daily Photo: Stanley Donwood at The Outsiders London

Stanley Donwood’s latest exhibition Far Away is Close at Hand in Images of Elsewhere is now open at The Outsiders London (Greek Street, Soho). Vibrant and eerie, the show’s well worth taking a look at. Many of you who might not immediately recognise the artist’s name might actually have some of his work in your homes. Donwood has been collaborating with Radiohead for cover artwork since the band put out The Bends almost a decade ago. Continue reading

Restaurant Review: Central & Co, Great Marlbourgh Street, Soho

What’s with all this “& Co” business in London these days? Here’s my third review in a row of an eatery with such a suffix to its name. Fortunately, my & Co trio has provided me with more than decent grub. In the case of Soho brasserie with chic basement bar, Central & Co, I found an especially convenient and fairly swank venue offering a something-for-everyone approach toward food and drink. Continue reading

All Day Soho Dining at Damson & Co on Brewer Street

Two current trends in the London dining scene at the moment are creating all-day-dining menus and adding a gratuitous “& Co” to the end of your business’s name. Newly opened Damson & Co twirls a double braid of zeitgeist to offer the constant flow of Soho shufflers a handy little place for a full-on dinner or a dabbling dash with libation – be it booze, fresh juice or quick shot of espresso. Continue reading

My 3D Lipo Non-Surgical Fat Removing Experience

I get some pretty wacky invitations landing in my inbox these days. Having a several years old blog and a rather flexible attitude toward what makes a relevant story often adds up to me getting to check out a lot of things I might not have even known about otherwise. Latest of these larks that I actually agreed to try out was the opportunity to book a non-surgical 3D Lipo fat removing and skin tightening session at Skin Associates in Central London which resulted in me loosing 2cm from my waistline. Coming Soon: The Clockjack Chicken Burger

Sometime this week, Soho’s Clockjack Oven will launch the Clockjack Chicken Burger – a fried chicken thigh burger with a bit of a kick to it. Lucky clucker that I am, I had a chance to sample a prototype of the new burger last week. It was truly delicious and I reckon will prove to be a very popular addition to an already tasty menu. NFL in the UK (CheapOair)

Every year since 2007, a regular season game of good ole NFL American football has been played at Wembley Stadium in London. Plans for the 2013 season keep with this well established trend but actually up the ante with not just one but two NFL International Series games slated to be played at the 90,000 capacity Wembley Stadium, the world’s largest stadium with all seats under cover.
