London Food Bloggers Descend upon Tayyabs (Londonist)
London Food Bloggers Descend upon Tayyabs
Londonist, March 20, 2009 12:43 PM
A feast organized by blogging foodie buddies Chris Pople and Helen Graves (both of whom we’ve showcased here and here), Whitechapel’s most celebrated of curry houses, Tayyabs, saw a formidable contingent of London food bloggers toss back many a lamb chop and more last night. Of course, Londonist was there (with three Londonistas partaking in the yum-fest) enjoying the food as well as the company of some of London’s most serious eaters.

Tasty Mingling at Generation XO: The Tasting Sessions (Londonist)
Tasty Mingling at Generation XO: The Tasting Sessions
Londonist, March 18, 2009 12:21 PM

Deciding which is better, the 100 year old Courvoisier Initiale Extra or the 130 year old Hennessy Paradis is a splendid dilemma and just the sort of quandary we found ourselves in last night at Generation XO: The Tasting Sessions. Held at the ultra-swish five star Sanderson Hotel (with a preceding dinner at the hotel’s Malaysian inspired restaurant, Suka), this was the fourth in an ongoing series of Tasting Sessions …

Having followed her mouth-wateringly delicious Food Stories blog for some time, we made no hesitation accepting her offer to swing by their South London flat and sample her signature dish, rabbit lasagne (see her site as well as the Channel 4 website for the recipe).

Vanilla: Innovative Food and Cocktails in a Chic Setting (Londonist)
Vanilla: Innovative Food and Cocktails in a Chic Setting
Londonist, March 17, 2009 9:49 AM
Yeah that’s our title and we’re sticking to it. However, we could have just as easily named this post “Chic Food and Cocktails in an Innovative Setting.” Located at 131 Great Titchfield Street, W1W 5BB (nearest Tube is Great Portland Street Station), Vanilla’s about as glam a venue as we’ve come across recently. From its all-white, dream-like bar and lounge to its black on black dining room (with silver features), this resto-bar with LED mood lighting (for “infinite colour combinations”) is where we’d take that special someone (or big-eyed out-of-towner) if we were lookin’ to wow ‘em with our discriminating style.

London Hotels Blog, March 13th, 2009
Amid the hustle and bustle of the City of London, just above Liverpool Street Station on the eastern side of Exchange Square, the serene (and enormous!) Broadgate Venus reclines in a pose of suspended animation, blissfully unfazed by commuter commotion and the hubbub of global financial transactions.

Interview with Peter Harden of Harden’s Restaurants Guides

We’ll always love our books, but the web, mobile and whatever else the electronics giants have up their sleeves to throw at us are the future. We’re just about to re-launch a much-enhanced website, and the challenge for us is to make our website and mobile sites the first-stop for anyone interested in restaurants, event-planning and going out generally.

Bloggers Q & A: Eat Like a Girl
Foodtv.co.uk, Monday, 9 March 2009 09:43
Receiving accolades from the likes of Time Out and The Times, the hugely popular London food blog, Eat Like a Girl, serves as an outlet for blogger Niamh Shields to express her thoughts about what she’s most passionate about – good food. Luckily for all of us, it’s a fun and engaging read that’s regularly updated with plenty of delicious musings. Recently, Niamh was kind enough to share some of foodie insight with us …

Tiki Mugs: Cult Artifacts of Polynesian Pop
Oh man! Today’s already insanely busy – incredibly fun and chocked full of good art and all sorts of other treats (stay tuned) – but ultimately exhausting with the first of hopefully just a couple of crosstown trips already underway. Anyway, however the day goes, it is my sincerest of hopes that it winds down at the Trader Vic’s release party for the new book, Tiki Mugs: Cult Artifacts of Polynesian Pop.
Mai Tais anyone?

… laughs aside, the Royal Lancaster’s focus on “energy and environment within the hotel industry” is commendable. More London hotels should follow the Royal Lancaster’s lead – more ethically sourced products and more lobby monkeys NOW!

New Dilly Zine! Marcus Oakley Sketchbooks 2003-2008
For the past week or so, I’ve been rambling round town with a copy of Marcus Oakley’s Sketchbooks 2003-2008 at ready access in my backpack.
The handy little zine (the first Dilly release of 2009) offers a “rare look into this globally recognized and much in demand London based illustrator” with plenty of pages of works from Oakley’s personal sketchbooks, featuring portraits of Dolly Parton, Black Sabbath, Sir Jimmy Saville, owls, big-eyed kites and all sorts of other peculiar, seemingly simplistic and terribly charming sketches .
For a fiver you can throw a copy of this A5 portrait/offset printing on recycled paper, first (and only) edition of 500 piece of eye candy fun into your backpack too. Visit ledilly.com to get yours.

Shoot Experience Photojournalism Workshop: Day Two
Just back from the second of two sessions in Shoot Experience’s new photojournalism workshop (click here for my account of the first session). Brilliant stuff! And, now that it’s done, I’m super glad I participated.
Recommending this course (which is in the future is to be called the Documentary Photography workshop) as well as SE’s Street Photography & Camera Handling is a piece a cake. If you’re keen to become a better photographer, you can’t go wrong with Shoot Experience. You’ll learn a lot, meet other folks that are sincerely interested in photography and have a bit of fun too. Give it a shot!

Free Burritos, Nachos, Beer & Tequila! Qype + Chilango = Mucho Fun!
Qype does London, March 5th 2009
The recent opening of Mexican restaurant Chilango’s second location in London presented an excellent opportunity for Qype to drop by for a taste. The fact that Chilango welcomed us with open arms (free beer, burritos and more!) and that a brand ambassador from Cuervo Tequila decided to join in on the fun meant we had ourselves a right proper fiesta last night …
