Bourbon Tasting Flights and a Steak of the Month at JW Steakhouse, Park Lane

JW Steakhouse at the Marriott’s Grosvenor House hotel has recently introduced a couple of brilliant new reasons to pay this fine dining establishment a visit post-haste: a series of four bourbon tasting flights and a Steak of the Month. Both these offers represent deliciously good news to be sure! However, what is perhaps even more deserving of me shouting about you making speedy beeline to enjoy is the simple fact that, as I discover during my dinner last night, everything else about this American style Steakhouse is fantastic too. Carpo: Great Greek Snacks at Piccadilly Circus

Carpo, an emporium and cafe offering a simple selection of “nuts, chocolate and coffee” (there’s dried fruit and a few other products as well) has recently opened near Piccadilly Circus. So what? So … fantastically flavoursome pistachios, delectable honey with a hint of thyme, exquisitely juicy candied mandarins, figs covered in chocolate that are worth dropping whatever you’re doing at this very moment to rush over for a taste of and a whole lot more – that’s what. Mozzarella Month at Sartoria, Savile Row

The masterclass – conducted by Head Chef Lukas Pfaff and his mozzarella supplier, Andrea Livi of Bianca la Bufala – was a delicious opportunity to sample fresh and top of the line mozzarella di buffala along with a range of similar southern Italian cheeses such as smoky scamorza, proper pizza topper fiordilatte, and gorgeously creamy burrata. Burlexe: Burlesque Inspired Theatre at London’s Shadow Lounge (OneTravel)

I, for one, enjoyed myself immensely when I checked out the show earlier this month. I laughed a lot. I blushed as dancers made eye contact, took to the audience and once when one performer ran her finger along my jawline. Ooh la la! Continue reading

Spring into a Great Soho Supper at Carom Pan-Indian Restaurant

Kemey and I were treated to a delicious meal over the weekend at pan-Indian restaurant Carom at Meza. Based on past experiences, I figured we were in for a more than decent dinner when I made the reservation, but expectations were exceeded and both of us came away glad to add one more reliably good and centrally located restaurant to our list of quality venues worth keeping in mind. A tip of the hat to the legendary Le Chat Noir club of Paris, the Black Cat Cabaret at the historic Cafe de Paris at Leicester Square draws its inspiration from the “Absinthe-soaked, dark and daring heyday of Montmartre’s cabaret underworld” offering a chance to “discover decidedly modern performance in its many strange and wondrous forms.”

A Beguiling Ode to Great Britain at Alvin Leung’s Bo London (CDCLifestyle)

It’s been a little over a month now, yet I still find myself carrying on about how lovely my dining experience at Bo London was. I’ve enjoyed a fair number of fine meals since but, still, something about my time there lingers. Odds are my dinner will go down as the best meal of the year. And if not, well then, the rest of 2013 promises to be one of exquisite culinary delight. Continue reading

Preview: Black Cat Cabaret at Cafe de Paris

Transforming the Titanic Ballroom at Cafe de Paris, Black Cat Cabaret draws inspiration from the “absinthe-soaked heyday of Montmartre’s dark and daring cabaret underworld” and with a line up featuring a “lip-syncing comic genius … showgirl dynamos .. daredevil aerial acrobatics … an accordionista of the apocalypse” and more, this certainly promises to be a quirky night out at the very least. In Conversation with Dan Witz (Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art)

I’ve always enjoyed working in London. Next to NYC, it’s my favorite city for doing street art The light in both places is similar, a soft, post-industrial gloom that seems to suit the emotional temperature of my work. Also, when you get up close in London there’s a grit in the pores that’s exactly the same as New York’s. Since usually I’m using a NYC grate, my pieces transfer well, and feel like they belong. London’s Chinatown Around the Edges (OneTravel)

London’s annual Chinese New Year parade will slither its way through Chinatown on Sunday the 10th of February. Obviously, going out for Chinese cuisine on that day would make a lot of sense … if you’re patient or have the luxury of planning ahead and making a reservation. However, if you find yourself burnt out on Chinese food or still wishing to enjoy the Chinatown festivities without having to endure the crowds, it’s worth noting there’s a lot more on offer in this area than dumplings and Peking duck. Bo London by Alvin Leung (Great British Chefs)

Just under a year old, Fitzrovia restaurant, In Parma, has been bleeping wildly on my foodie radar all this time. Dan Witz: Prisoners 2012 – 2013 at Lazarides Rathbone
