There’s a new bar opened up in Shoreditch. Okay, that’s not really news, is it? But a smartly curated selection of spirits and a range of superbly crafted hand bottled cocktails make The Liquor Cabinet well worth shouting about. Plus, I blagged a way for my readers to get two cocktails for a tenner! Keep reading for more about this fantastic bar and to find out about my exclusive two-for-a-tenner cocktail special. London Daily Photo: The Last Instinct at Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar
Man oh man! I got an education last night from Jaume Beato, lead bartender at Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar at the Marriott Hotel County Hall. From a crash course in the history and global reach of gin (Gillray’s keeps close to 70 different gins behind the bar) to how to mix a classic cocktail … Continue reading →
London Daily Photo: Appleton Estate’s Senior Blender, David Morrison, at Hawksmoor Spitalfields
It’s London Cocktail Week: red letter days for booze hounds, bar folk and limber elbowed media types from across the globe. I’ve been getting in on the LCW fun a bit too. My lunch yesterday came compliments of Hawksmoor Spitalfields where Appleton Estate’s Senior Blender, David Morrison, was on hand to guide a small group of us (booze hounds, bar folk and limber elbowed media types) through a hands-on rum blending. Continue reading →
London Daily Photo: La Hechicera
Early evening yesterday, I spent a bit of time at Mr Fogg’s in Mayfair with Laura Riascos and Martamaria Carrillo of Colombian premium rum (and the only family owned rum made in Colombia), La Hechicera. I had tasted La Hechicera before and really enjoyed it. So I was pleased to receive the invitation. Matured in American White Oak bourbon barrels between 12 and 21 years, it’s got an intriguingly smooth flavour profile and goes down a charm. Next time you’re at one of London’s finer bars. Look for the blue label. Continue reading →
Restaurant Review: Central & Co, Great Marlbourgh Street, Soho
What’s with all this “& Co” business in London these days? Here’s my third review in a row of an eatery with such a suffix to its name. Fortunately, my & Co trio has provided me with more than decent grub. In the case of Soho brasserie with chic basement bar, Central & Co, I found an especially convenient and fairly swank venue offering a something-for-everyone approach toward food and drink. Continue reading →
All Day Soho Dining at Damson & Co on Brewer Street
Two current trends in the London dining scene at the moment are creating all-day-dining menus and adding a gratuitous “& Co” to the end of your business’s name. Newly opened Damson & Co twirls a double braid of zeitgeist to offer the constant flow of Soho shufflers a handy little place for a full-on dinner or a dabbling dash with libation – be it booze, fresh juice or quick shot of espresso. Continue reading →

London Daily Photo: The Courtesan Dim Sum Bar in Brixton
Snapped this shot a few weeks back during a shindig at the Courtesan dim sum bar in Brixton. I had a lot of fun sampling the cocktails and absolutely loved their Wagyu and ribeye beef sliders.

Bar Snacks at the Old Queen’s Head, Essex Road
You’re kinda spoilt for choice if you’re looking for a place to drink on Essex Road. A handful of quality boozers (some great places to eat too!) are clustered close to where Essex Road meets Upper Street with a few more commendable establishments presenting themselves up the road nearer De Beauvoir Town. Among the best of Essex Road’s pubs is the Old Queen’s Head. Continue reading →
GNH Bar (Blue Tomato)
I have long felt that a significant number of the best cocktail bars in London are hidden away in some of this city’s finer hotels. There’s the Coburg Bar at the Connaught, the Mirror Bar at the Landmark, the American … Continue reading →
Burlexe: Burlesque Inspired Theatre at London’s Shadow Lounge (OneTravel)
I, for one, enjoyed myself immensely when I checked out the show earlier this month. I laughed a lot. I blushed as dancers made eye contact, took to the audience and once when one performer ran her finger along my jawline. Ooh la la! Continue reading →
Prime Steak and More at Palm London (CDCLifestyle)
Star of the table at Palm London is the steak: New York strip, rump and boneless rib-eye to be precise. Sourced exclusively from Smithfield stalwart – Tom Hixson & Co – and grilled to perfection by Executive Chef Spencer Westcott and his kitchen, the Palm serves gorgeously marbled and tender corn fed, hand selected USDA Prime beef aged for a minimum of 35 days … But the reasons to choose Palm don’t stop with the steaks. Tasty Kids’ Stuff for Grown Ups @ Lazybones, Farringdon

Review: Fingers and Thumbs’ Seafood Shack
Last night I paid a repeat visit to a repeat opening of Fingers and Thumbs’ Seafood Shack. Yum. Following ye olde ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix’ methodology, I kept with what I knew I’d love: a big ole pot of lobster cooked with juicy prawns, mussels, clams, veggies and more. Complimented by n ample stack of rustic bread with home made cocktail sauce (which could have been a little better honestly), washed down with a few Kronenbourgs, and rounded off by a scoop of especially tasty vanilla fudge ice cream – it was a fun and filling meal. The damage? Around £55 total for two. Continue reading →
Fingers and Thumbs Seafood Shack Returns to Bethnal Green
