Daddy Donkey | Lucky 13
Next in the queue of my longtime London food faves is Daddy Donkey; and I say queue because there always seemed to be one new to its burrito-mobile when it first parked at Leather Lane Market. The queue always moved quickly though, and I never minded waiting for what was on offer. In 2013, the truck was swapped for a permanent site on Leather Lane. Avid fans of this street food hero still don’t seem to mind lining up for fully loaded burritos (and not much else). Continue reading

Viet Hoa Cafe & Mess | Lucky 13
Among the bevy of Vietnamese eateries clustered along the Hoxton stretch of Kingsland Road is one that always has pleased my palate nightly every time I’ve visited: Viet Hoa Cafe & Mess. I’ve been dining there since 2006. Opened by two refugees, Viet Hoa was just a couple of years old at that time but still one of the first restaurants – if not actually the very first – to start out on what is now called “Pho Mile.” Continue reading

Bosphorus Kebabs | Lucky 13
When I first moved to London I lived in South Ken and passed by Bosphorus pretty regularly. The place always seemed to be doing a brisk business. Continue reading

Why Has Veganism Gotten So Popular?
It wasn’t that long ago that “vegan” barely showed up in conversation, let alone the headlines. But now, it seems to be in the news to some degree every week, whether it’s a brand-new product or someone getting unusually offended by the ‘audacity’ of edible plant options being offered anywhere, despite having presumably eaten a salad before. But generally, the idea of veganism has had a positive response of late, with a record number of Brits estimated for this year’s Veganuary. Continue reading
