Beyond Barcelona and Costa Brava: A Road Trip is the Best Way to Explore Catalunya (Metro)

Beyond Barcelona and Costa Brava: A Road Trip is the Best Way to Explore Catalunya

If you love visiting Barcelona and the Costa Brava, but have started to develop a been-there-done-that attitude toward the big city and coastal pleasures of Catalunya, you might want to consider delving deeper into the region. The interior of Catalunya offers a distinctively exotic edge that’s anything but a watered down version of Spanish and French cultures.

Plus, the food is exceptionally tasty, and the activities are super fun, and there’s a range of comfy accommodation too.

I fell hard for the dynamic scenery, the vast forests and the wide-open spaces. My route by car yielded so many unexpected vistas, with some of the most striking sights reminding me of a mix of tours in the American southwest, the Swiss Alps, and the Scottish Highlands. Winding up and down mountains, in and out of clouds, zipping through valleys and gorges with rushing rivers and snow-capped peaks in view were memorable pleasures in their own right.

A Taste of Honey at Dokke, St Katharine Docks

Untitled

Demi Perera makes a beeline to St Katharine Docks for a taste of honey at Dokke restaurant.

Well, it was National Honey Week from 22nd to 28th October and the nation was abuzz with some pretty sweet things (I had to do it). You’d be wondering why I’m interested in National Honey Week given that I live in London. After all, bees, birds and nature are all the domain of the countryside right? Best left to people who actually have an appreciation for it? Well, that wasn’t the case last week. London, not to be outdone by the countryside, hosted a range of honey-week related events. I, being of the inquisitive persuasion, went along to St Katharine Docks to find out how London got in on the act. Continue reading

Eine: Everything Starts Somewhere | #TCTalks Episode 42

Eine: Everything Starts Somewhere | #TCTalks Episode 42

Episode 42 of tikichris Talks features an interview with street artist Ben Eine. More widely known simply as Eine, the Southeast London born artist has found international success and garnered quite a fan base for his large-scale block letter paintings.

I met with Ben outside StolenSpace gallery in Whitechapel moments before the private view opening of his Everything Starts Somewhere exhibition for a brief chat.

As with his art, Ben offered a bold, brash and intense take on his working class roots, background as an artist, thoughts about today’s street art scene, and what folks can expect to see at his show.

Everything Starts Somewhere runs from 26 October to 18 November 2018.

Pure Indian Cooking, Putney Bridge

P1180577

Pure Indian Cooking near Putney Bridge Station in Fulham offers a fresh take on South Asian cuisine with fine dining flourishes that suggest Chef Patron Shilpa Dandekar’s kitchen is one to watch.

I sat in on a recent media tasting of the restaurant’s current menu. Everything tried was delicious, and the restaurant is an easy one to recommend for curbing curry cravings. If Pure Indian Cooking is your local, consider yourself lucky. Continue reading

Flat Iron King’s Cross

P1180557

No fuss steakhouse, Flat Iron, recently launched its sixth London outlet with minimal fanfare but plenty of fans queuing up nonetheless. I was one of them.

A short walk from King’s Cross Station, the latest in the Flat Iron portfolio maintains the restaurant group’s concept of offering specialist cuts of rare and native breed beef at reasonable prices with a small assortment of sides, a to-the-point wine list, and freshly made rolled ice cream for dessert. Genius? Pretty much. Continue reading

HalloWeekends at Cedar Point, the Roller Coaster Capital of the World

P1180837

The world’s best roller coasters PLUS all sorts of Halloween mischief (and Snoopy too)? I had a blast during my HalloWeekends visit to Cedar Point, the roller coaster capital of the world.

Hey gang. I’ve just returned home from an amazing week in Northern Ohio. Most of my time was spent in Cleveland, a city I fell for hard and unexpectedly in a way that’s unlike how I’ve ever felt about an American city. Yeah. Cleveland. Ohio. Whodathunkit?

To be sure, I’ll be publishing loads more about Cleveland in the days and weeks to come. I’ve got plenty of stories to share from my visit – including a series of podcast episodes featuring interviews with local makers and food and drink folks. But before commencing with my digital dotes about this off-the-radar Midwestern mini-metropolis, I thought I’d write about one of the more time sensitive aspects of my trip: HalloWeekends at Cedar Point. The highest highs and lowest lows of my itinerary came during an overnight excursion to this amusement park on the shores of Lake Eerie, where every exhilarating up and down was experienced within seconds of each other riding roller coaster after roller coaster. Learning to Cook (City AM)

Learning to Cook

The Cook Islands is a nation comprising 15 small islands sprinkled across a patch of the South Pacific, roughly halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand. As remote as they are spectacular, the collection of islands is reminiscent of Hawaii before its mid-century tourism-boom, and though the largest of its islands is today ringed by boutique hotels, much of the country is untouched and feels wildly tropical.

I spent a week discovering this idyllic Polynesian archipelago back in early autumn, splitting my time across two islands: Rarotonga, the largest, and the tiny atoll of Aitutaki.

VPS technology offers tech-savvy webmasters, and web developers a reliable hosting platform, that combines the performance of a dedicated server at the cost of a shared hosting. Professionals know what importance does it hold to have a well-configured server.

The most important aspect for considering a VPS hosting plan is the right operating system to run the VPS. Microsoft’s Windows server and the open source Linux are the most trusted operating systems to sustain a web hosting environment.

In order to come up with an educated decision to choose between the two, you must consider certain aspects, including reliability, performance, and the investment. The majority of the web professionals choose to go with Linux for a number of reasons. Continue reading
