Little Feast, Shepherd’s Bush

Little Feast street market has been going strong for almost two months now with about another month to go. I just managed to swing by for the first time last week. It’s a pleasant setting for a fun night of nosh with plenty of (covered) outdoor seating, a friendly vibe and a convenient location just across the street from Goldhawk Road Station. Tasty Pacific Treats at Tombo Poké and Matcha Bar, Soho

That poké is now ‘a thing’ in London is weird one for me – and seems kinda random. There are at least three eateries (that I know of) now open in town with poké as the main menu item. It’s “the next ceviche” I’ve been told (more than a few times) when I mention that I think this trend is odd. Continue reading

Liberty Cheesesteak Company: Real Deal Philly Cheesesteak

Finding no satisfaction in London’s “cheesesteak” offerings – or often any resemblance to the mega meaty two-hander sandwiches of Italian-American origin famously from his hometown – JP decided to bring it here himself. Long story short: he ended up having to come up with a recipe for the right kind of bread and even created his own “wiz” cheese sauce. As for the steak, JP was happy enough with already available rib eye, sliced ultra thin for tastiest and most genuinely Philadelphian results. Continue reading

London Clown Festival

As clowning is intended (I suppose), performers allowed themselves to be the butt of their own jokes to reflect the follies and quirks of all of us. I especially loved the sneering, nervous-laughter-inducing improv of The Establishment; the manic miming of Inda Perada; the preposterous gags and observations of Ben Target (pictured above); and the athletic dithering of Helen Duff. Continue reading

Sunset at the Villa Thalia at Dorfman Theatre, National Theatre

Arty, middle class Charlotte (Pippa Nixon) from London and charismatic American – and CIA operative – Harvey (Ben Miles) are frenemies to the highest degree. There’s instant affinity and sometimes even smouldering attraction between them but also deep-seated belief on both sides that one completely misunderstands the other and that the other is absolutely wrong about how the world spins on its geopolitical axis.
