I hope you enjoyed the journey. Whether you’re looking for a cheap meat feast, an organic indulgence, or a plant-based power snack – there’s a currywurst in Berlin for you! And if you’re ever in Berlin with a hankering for something completely non-wurst but still civically satiable, I also hope my suggestions of ‘authentic, local and not currywurst’ street foods can guide you in an appetising direction.
Here’s a list with links to all the posts in my Berlin | Best of the Wurst miniseries: Continue reading
Among my favourite non-currywurst dining experiences were two that were just as authentically Berliner and equally inexpensive and tasty: Bäckerei & Konditorei Waldtraut Balzer and Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebap. Continue reading
Dishes like the Ipanema (chorizo, avocado and poached egg on a maize muffin, £7.85) and the Samba (grilled veggies, black beans and poached egg with crispy sweet potato on a maize muffin, £7.85) were as full of flavour as they were filling. Ditto the chargrilled cured Portuguese chorizo (with chunky chips and black honey syrup, £7.50). Continue reading
Being on the road for a month with a tight budget and tighter itinerary made it hard to eat as healthily as I would have liked or otherwise done. And given how craven I can be about food, it was doubly difficult being in carno-rific Germany for all that time. But I tried to do my best getting enough veggies and fiber while limiting the most excessive of treats to rare occasions.
Honestly, very nutritious and non-meat options were available across the country and could be purchased with relative ease, particularly in Berlin and as long as I could look past the many awesome kebab shops, butcheries and such. I didn’t have to totally give up on my pursuit of Berlin’s best currywurst though! Continue reading

This late night takeaway started as a cart back in 1980 building a reputation as a reliable and affordable pit stop for cabbies and clubbers. These days, Curry 36 is a brick-and-mortar operation with stand-up tables out front – and usually a queue of folks waiting to order their currywurst, bockwurst, fries and such. The place is among the most famous of classic currywurst joints. It’s where celebs, dignitaries and the like are taken to taste the real thing. Despite its popularity, Curry 36 retains a very “of the street” feel. Continue reading
I feel like I’ve been neglecting my blog over these past few months. I’ve been focused so much on side projects, writing for other outlets and travelling that I haven’t been able to take the time to publish as many posts as I would have liked. But I have been taking notes. And now that my schedule has settled down and I’ve settled in for a long stretch at home, I’m eager to get back to daily blogging and sharing some my favourite misadventures and happy happenstances with you.
Among the notes from my recent travels are those about cheapskate dining across Germany in April. Continue reading
Since my introductory post, I’ve been enjoying my morning java made with the Melitta CI Touch. This sleek coffeemaker is a solid all rounder that’s straightforward to use but also very easy tweaked to individual preferences.
